Sydney Showground is thrilled to announce the arrival of X Games!
X Games is an annual extreme sports event produced by the Disney’s global satellite sports channel ESPN, and for the first time in the events 20 year history the Games will take place in Australia… 19-21 October 2018 at Sydney Showground.
Australian extreme sports athletes hold 138 X Games medals, 45 of which are gold so it makes perfect sense to hold the Games on their home turf. Featuring Skateboard, BMX and Moto X competitions, the X Games attract a worldwide television audience in excess of 50 million viewers. The X Games will brilliantly showcase the Sydney Olympic Park precinct to a global audience, and with attendee numbers predicted in the tens of thousands the entire area will come alive with a millennial crowd of sports enthusiasts.
“We’re pleased the hard-work we put in to secure this event will once again present this precinct as the number one sports hub in Sydney, and remind the rest of the country how big we can go”, said Peter Thorpe, General Manager, Sydney Showground.
“Not only is this a big win for us, it is a terrific opportunity to show the absolute diversity of our multi-purpose venue spaces, both indoors and out. And it is an absolute bonus for the competitors that they get to visit the greatest city in the world and enjoy all we have to offer”.
In addition to the extreme sports competitions, X Games Sydney will feature musical performances, art installations and a festival experience. The first ever Australian X Games will have an Australian flavour, showing off Sydney and surrounds in everything from the course design to the medals and the live coverage.
The X Games will be broadcast locally on the Seven network and will benefit from massive cross-promotion opportunities via Seven West Media.
