Thales has provided branded Keep Cups to employees based at Sydney Olympic Park as an initiative to reduce the environmental impact of single-use takeaway cups – which almost always end up as landfill.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, Australia produces 3 million tonnes of plastics each year, of which less than 12% is recycled. Up to 130,000 tonnes of plastic will end up in the ocean.

Each disposable coffee cup is responsible for 0.24 pounds of carbon (C02) greenhouse gas emissions. If an individual purchases a disposable cup every day, this creates about 23 pounds of waste per year.
The plastic used in disposable cups is polystyrene or Styrofoam. It is a carcinogen and a neurotoxin, especially when heated. It is not recyclable or biodegradable.
Through the provision of Keep Cups, Thales is helping its employees make their coffee break more sustainable and reinforcing that small actions equal big changes.
