The University of Sydney has announced a significant milestone for Western Sydney’s arts and education landscape, confirming a new $30 million teaching and research facility for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM) in Parramatta. This marks the first major expansion in the Conservatorium’s 110-year history.
Set to open in the second half of 2026, the new facility will be located in the Parramatta CBD, directly opposite Parramatta Station and within a short walk of the ferry, providing convenient access for students and staff across Greater Sydney.
The purpose-built space will feature modern teaching studios, collaborative learning areas and a state-of-the-art performance auditorium, supporting both traditional and contemporary music education. The expansion reflects the growing demand for world-class arts training in Western
Sydney and reinforces Parramatta’s position as a rapidly developing cultural and educational hub.
The new Conservatorium site will welcome students, researchers and industry partners once operational, strengthening opportunities for music education and performance beyond the central Sydney campus.
