Sydney Olympic Park continues to be recognised as one of Australia’s most successful examples of urban biodiversity management. While widely known for its sporting and major event history, the precinct also holds an important environmental legacy as the home of the endangered Green and Golden Bell Frog.
The transformation of the Brickpit into a protected habitat has enabled the species to survive and thrive within a highly urbanised setting. This outcome reflects the long-term commitment to integrating conservation outcomes into the planning and management of Sydney Olympic Park.
Sydney Olympic Park Authority’s conservation work has been delivered in partnership with the NSW Government’s Saving Our Species program, supporting habitat protection, monitoring and recovery efforts. Together, these initiatives demonstrate how environmental stewardship can coexist with major infrastructure, business activity and community use within the precinct.
