Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 is moving into a significant phase of delivery, with enabling works progressing across Melrose Park and Wentworth Point and the main works package now progressing through construction procurement.
The $1 billion-plus project will extend the Parramatta Light Rail network towards Sydney Olympic Park, delivering approximately 10 kilometres of new two-way track and 14 stops through Camellia, Rydalmere, Ermington, Melrose Park, Wentworth Point and the Olympic Park precinct.
A major component already under construction is the new public and active transport bridge connecting Melrose Park and Wentworth Point across the Parramatta River. Current September works include structural bridge piling, column extensions, deck construction, permanent drainage and service works, alongside road reinstatement and utility works throughout the surrounding precincts.
The next major phase, Stage 2a, will deliver 4.5 kilometres of new dual track, nine stops, a new active transport bridge between Camellia and Rydalmere, an expanded Stabling and Maintenance Facility and additional light rail vehicles. Procurement for the Stage 2a main works is currently underway.
Infrastructure NSW currently lists the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 Main Works as being in construction procurement, with procurement scheduled through to the end of 2026 and construction expected to commence in Q1 2027. The main works are expected to continue through to 2035.
With enabling works progressing and the main construction package moving through procurement, Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 represents another significant pipeline of infrastructure activity for Western Sydney as the region continues to experience substantial development and investment.
