SGS Economics and Planning has been appointed as the Project Lead to shape a new Place Vision and Strategy for Sydney Olympic Park.
In 2017 SGS prepared a major report entitled Connecting Sydney Olympic Park and GPOP with Greater Sydney. This report demonstrated a great understanding of the powerhouse that Sydney Olympic Park can be for the NSW economy.
The Business Association is delighted with this announcement and the appointment of an organisation that has a deep understanding of Olympic Park.
SGS Economics and Planning is well placed to provide leadership, cutting edge data driven insights and a history of successful collaboration with business and stakeholders, to achieve the potential presented by the new Metro West station and other major infrastructure and development opportunities in the region.
SGS will work with Cred Consulting and in-house experts to leverage these opportunities to breathe new life into our iconic location with benefits for all Greater Sydney and NSW.
CEO of Placemaking NSW Anita Mitchell said while the precinct was well known and loved for its Olympic heritage and major events, the Metro West opportunity will strengthen Sydney Olympic Park’s appeal as a compelling everyday destination.
“SGS Economics and Planning is well equipped to help deliver this critically important Place Vision and Strategy to ensure Sydney Olympic Park thrives for years to come. SGS Economics and Planning has been appointed to shape a new Place Vision and Strategy for Sydney Olympic Park.
The new Place Vision and Strategy will focus on delivering a precinct that successfully combines world-class venues, public spaces, parklands, and events, with a growing community of workers, residents, students, and visitors.”
Ms Mitchell said the work will inform the development of a new Masterplan process in early 2022 which will shape all future developments in the precinct.
“Sydney Olympic Park already plays host to a daily working and residential population of more than 20,000 people and more than 10 million visitors every year,” Ms Mitchell said.
“Engaging with the diverse community of locals and visitors as well as businesses and venue operators within the park will be a crucial part of the vision creation.”
