It has been a busy and productive time for the Business Association over the past few weeks with the launch of Relight the Flame – our five point plan to complete the Sydney Olympic Vision – and the State Government election last Saturday.
I congratulate Gladys Berejiklian and her Coalition partners on their re-election to a new four-year term leading the state. Although the Business Association is not aligned to any political party, the continuity provided by the election outcome should assist with our ongoing advocacy for new and improved transport infrastructure servicing the Olympic precinct. Significant projects needing substantial government investment such as Metro West, Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 and several major road projects now have new impetus and are fast becoming a reality.
On a totally different note, April means show time! Every Easter, the country and city join together at the Sydney Royal Easter Show at the Sydney Showground. The twelve day celebration featuring agricultural competitions, animal experiences, live entertainment, carnival fun, shopping and much more, is Australia’s biggest ticketed event and takes place every day from 12 April to 23 April. Don’t forget that your ShowLink ticket includes entry to the Show as well as your travel to and from Sydney Olympic Park on all public transport services. You can find everything else you need to know at Royal Easter Show
NOTE: To assist with traffic movement there will be road closures and parking changes in place in the leadup to the show and continuing until 1 May. A complete list of closures and changes is here and is updated regularly Road Closures and Parking Changes
If ball sports are your thing then April has a bit of everything including the AFL’s GWS Giants v Richmond Tigers, the NRL’s Bulldogs v Rabbitohs and Netball’s Giant’s v NSW Swifts. Throw in the world-renowned Harlem Globetrotters on April 13 and you have more sport than you can throw a ball at! Check out the website for details of all these games and more Olympic Park Sports
Finally, congratulations to the GWS GIANTS for a groundbreaking deal that sees the AFL club’s Olympic Park home ground renamed the GIANTS Stadium. Formerly known as Spotless Stadium, this multi-year agreement will see the naming rights deal in place during the Royal Easter Show.
