With the arrival of warmer weather, the City of Parramatta has officially reopened the Lake Parramatta swimming area for the 2025–26 season, inviting residents and visitors to make the most of one of Western Sydney’s most popular natural swimming spots.
Lifeguards will patrol the lake each weekend from 11am to 7pm, with coverage extending to seven days a week from 6 December 2025 to 28 January 2026, before returning to weekends only through March. Patrols will again operate daily during the April school holidays, with the season concluding on 26 April 2026.
Since swimming was reintroduced at Lake Parramatta in 2015, the site has become a cornerstone of local recreation. Following a $1.4 million upgrade completed last year, the area now features improved safety and accessibility measures, including a lifeguard platform, gently sloping sandy beach, shaded areas, an outdoor shower, enhanced signage, and an onsite emergency response beacon. A water safety education program has also been introduced to promote responsible recreation.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the lake continues to attract growing numbers of visitors each summer and plays a central role in the City’s long-term vision.
“Lake Parramatta is a key part of our 2050 plan to create a continuous green corridor from the Lake to Sydney Olympic Park, reflecting our bold vision to become an unrivalled River City,” Cr Zaiter said.
The reopening marks an opportunity for the community to enjoy a safe, natural swimming experience while connecting with Parramatta’s expanding network of green and recreational spaces. Swimmers are reminded to remain within the designated swimming area and to enter the water only when lifeguards are on duty.
