Long days were the hallmark of the Gold Coast Commonwealth games for the Team Australia medical staff from the Sydney Sports Medicine Centre.
In the Village headquarters, at training venues and across the different sporting venues, it was up and going with the first athlete and finishing when the last athlete was done for the night. In addition to the niggles and little injuries, there was a long list of services provided by the SSMC team.
• Injury prevention physio and massage;
• Recovery massage;
• Making sure their diet is still right as catering is done en-masse and not to specific needs;
• Setting up and packing down at the venues every day.
The ultimate aim of keeping Team Australia. fit, healthy and firing certainly paid off. What an amazing Games it was for Australia!
Sydney Sports Medicine Centre are particularly proud of the performance of athletes considered part of the SSMC family. They were privileged to see Brandon Starc, Dani Stevens, James Magnussen, Madison De Rozario, Matthew Wilson, Declan Stacey, and Enid Sung (to name a few…) blossom from youngsters full of promise, to world class stars. And it has been very exciting to welcome them back and congratulate them on not only their great performances, but also the drive and determination that saw them get there.
Now the journey begins over again for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
