Two of Parramatta’s standout aquatic destinations have taken top honours at the prestigious IPWEA NSW & ACT Engineering Excellence Awards, recognised for their innovation, design and community impact.
The Parramatta Aquatic Centre (PAC) secured the Minister’s Award, celebrating its complex engineering and thoughtful design that seamlessly integrates into the surrounding Mays Hill landscape. The state-of-the-art facility features a 50m outdoor pool, indoor pool, learn-to-swim areas and wellness amenities, setting a new benchmark for aquatic centres in Australia.
Meanwhile, Lake Parramatta was recognised in the New or Improved Techniques category for its upgraded swimming area. Enhancements include a new sandy beach, improved accessibility with upgraded pathways and handrails, and a dedicated lifeguard platform- making the space safer and more inclusive for the community.
Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter praised the achievements, noting the projects have elevated Parramatta’s recreational spaces while overcoming significant engineering challenges.
