The NSW government has ended the uncertainty over the timeframe for the redevelopment of our largest stadium, indicating it will remain open until the Blues host next year’s Origin clash.
Next year, the SCG will stage the NRL grand final, with the bulldozers commencing work on ANZ Stadium mid-way through next year’s series. The Stadium is not expected to reopen until 2023.
The NSW Minister for Sport John Sidoti said, “The NSW government is committed to playing a State of Origin game in Sydney in 2020 and we are working very closely with the NRL to host that game at ANZ Stadium before the redevelopment commences.
“The planning process for redevelopment of ANZ Stadium has begun as the NSW government continues to deliver world class venues for the state, further enhancing our position as a global and sporting destination.”
