The ANZ Stadium matches will follow a historic first-ever Super League game outside of Europe – with Wigan bringing their Round 2 fixture against Hull to WIN Stadium, Wollongong, on Saturday 10 February.
The classic double-header format will give fans the chance to have twice the fun on the day with Hull FC v St George Illawarra Dragons kicking off at 5:30pm then Wigan Warriors v South Sydney Rabbitohs following at 7:45pm.
Wigan and Hull make up two of the Super League’s most successful clubs with a strong tradition of winning.
Wigan Warriors have the biggest rugby league fan base in the UK and are the defending Super League Champions and World Club Champions. The club is the most successful in the UK, having won 21 League Championships, including four Super League Grand Finals, in addition to 19 Challenge Cups and four World Club Challenge trophies.
Hull FC was founded in 1865, making them one of the oldest rugby league teams in the world. They have won six League Championships and added a fourth Challenge Cup in 2016.
Wigan captain Sean O’Loughlin is excited by the spectacle of going up against two of the NRL’s most traditional clubs in the Rabbitohs and Dragons.
“It is shaping up to be a really special couple of weeks for both fans and players,” O’Loughlin said.
“The double-header at the magnificent ANZ Stadium is really special and will be a great test for us.
“To watch our rivals Hull go head-to-head with the Dragons then for us to play the Rabbitohs is going to be a lot of fun – we can’t wait.”
