Every year in Australia •68,000 children are hospitalised •2500 babies are stillborn •Around 44,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery •Up to 1000 babies sadly lose their fight for life.
There are a significant number of added stressors that are placed on dads and their families during this time.
Pillars of Strength is an Australian first charity which provides ‘Time Out’ and In Hospital support programs for Dads while their baby is sick and also to bereaved Dads after the loss of their baby.
Working with major sporting codes, teams, venues and organisations, the Pillars of Strength Time Out program provides Dads with the opportunity to participate in, or attend, sporting and fitness activities with mates, family members or another Dad who has experienced a similar situation.
Pillars of Strength also provides an In-Hospital support program via parking vouchers, short term accommodation, financial advice, travel and food assistance. This is to support to Dads and their families whilst their child/ren are in the hospital NICU.
